Meet The Builder ~ Chuck Beckmann

If you drop Chuck Beckmann in the middle of the woods and dress him in camouflage, you have just made him a very happy man. Growing up in Minnesota, he went camping, bow hunting and fishing whenever he could. The opportunity to spend a weekend outdoors is one of Chuck's favorite things to do. 'Breathing the fresh air, discovering new trails, watching for white-tailed deer, listening for elk, and pitching a tent wherever there's a clearing-that is the ideal vacation for me,' he says.

But back when Chuck was in school, having gills rather than camouflage was more important to him. A competitive swimmer, he was a scholarship athlete at the University of Minnesota. Chuck set varsity and regional records, was a Big 1O finalist four straight years, and was elected team captain. When a knee injury requiring surgery appeared to be the end of his swimming career, Chuck refused to accept it. He trained harder, strengthened his knee and qualified for the Olympic trials. Unfortunately that was the year the U.S. boycotted the Games. But Chuck has never let go of that drive to be the best at whatever he does.

Even though Chuck is very driven in his career, you would never know it when you meet him. Laidback, easy-going, friendly are the words many use when they describe him. Ask Chuck about one of his other favorite things to do - hunting and fishing - and you'll see his eyes light up. From turkey hunting in Missouri, to elk hunting in Idaho and fishing in Minnesota, Chuck enjoys heading to the wilderness with his friends and family. He'll tell you about the times when moose have found his tent a comfortable pillow (with him still in it) and that he was featured on the local television program 'Good Company' as the Minnesota State Turkey Calling and Owl Hooting Champion. 'I appreciate what the outdoors offers us,' he says. 'When I hunt, it's not just a sport to me. Spending time in the woods allows me to watch wildlife and listen to the sounds of nature. It's a peacefulness, you can't find anywhere else.' It's obvious that Chuck is a natural for helping people. To him, that is the best part of the building process.
